Election Day is one week away and it’s our opportunity to vote for pro-worker candidates and measures and defeat those that will undermine everything we’ve worked to accomplish.
There are two very important propositions on the ballot that I am asking you as a Teamsters 856 member to pay close attention to.
YES on Prop 15 — Schools and Communities First:
- Brings billions of dollars to our schools that are in dire need of funding, and the money will also go to cities and counties to provide basic services to our communities
- Strengthens Prop 13 to protect homeowners, renters, and small businesses
- Closes loophole for big corporations and makes them pay their fair share
NO on Prop 22 — Strips workers of basic rights and passes burden onto taxpayers
- Gig companies have spent nearly $200 million to buy themselves out of following labor laws so they can exploit their workers and push the burden on to taxpayers
- If Prop 22 passes, it will set a blueprint for all employers to reclassify employees as independent contractors so they can get out of providing benefits, sick leave, workers’ comp. and more
- There is nothing in the current law that says these companies can’t provide flexible hours – don’t believe the lie
- Let’s hold these gig corporations accountable to their workers by voting NO on 22. If you haven’t already, please sign this pledge with us at www.ibt.io/no22
I ask that you please talk with your family, friends, and colleagues so we can get the word out. Polling in both propositions show that the races are close. These corporations might have all the money, but we have the power of organizing and people who vote!
Thank you for standing strong with the working people of California.
