Solidarity Fund

Solidarity is About Members Helping Members

History
In October 2004 Local 856’s Executive Board voted to establish the Solidarity Fund. The need for this fund arose when our members in the hotel industry in San Francisco stood with UNITE/HERE Local 2 members who had been locked out of their jobs and honored their picket line. This act of solidarity created a significant financial hardship for our members. In response to this, Local 856’s Executive Board took action and established the Solidarity Fund.

Since its inception, the Solidarity Fund has been used on an ongoing basis to help our members in need, be it a strike or a personal misfortune.

How It Works
Disbursement of funds requires the completion of an application form and review by your union representative. Following the review, the application must be approved by Local 856’s Executive Board. The Solidarity Fund is made up of entirely voluntary contributions from our members. We urge our members to continue to contribute to the Solidarity Fund so that they may help our brothers and sisters in their times of need.
