On January 17, Shop Steward Lisa Day represented Local 856 at a Local Workforce Town Hall held at Teamsters Local 853 in Oakland. The event, attended by eight members of Congress (Representatives Mark DeSaulnier, Barbara Lee, Mike Thompson, Eric Swalwell, Jared Huffman, Mark Pocan, Debbie Dingell, and Donald Norcross) focused on challenges facing workers today. Day, a Contra Costa County Licensed Vocational Nurse, spoke to the Congress members about the dangers of the misuse of temporary agency employees to fill what should be permanent, benefited, union positions at the County and how Teamsters 856 representation is putting a stop to this insidious practice.
