In September, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill (AB) 5 into law. The new law helps protect working people from being misclassified as independent contractors by corporations that want to deny them basic labor protections like overtime and the right to become union members.

Through multiple visits to the Capitol, Local 856 members worked alongside union members around the state to urge their legislators to pass AB 5. Working people successfully stood together against some of the largest companies in the world and won!
