In the past few months, drastic changes have been proposed and implemented in regards to our country’s immigration policies. This has a wide impact that have left many of us worried. Rather than live in fear or constant worry, we believe that the best course of action is for everyone to be fully aware of their rights so that we are prepared. Knowledge is power and applied knowledge and preparation make all the difference. Teamsters 856 staff attorney Malia Vella is an ACLU and Immigrant and Refugee Committee Know Your Rights Trainer who can provide helpful information regarding the do’s and don’ts in the event of an ICE encounter or raid at the workplace. If you are interested in learning more about your rights or want to ensure that you can be a strong ally for your friends, family, or coworkers in the event of an ICE raid at home or at work, or if you are an immigrant or refugee who has future plans to travel outside of the U.S. in the near future, please contact your union representative to schedule a training at your next union meeting!

Teamsters 856 is also proud to support the Alameda Labor Council’s FREE Know Your Rights Training on Saturday, March 11th in Oakland. 856 staff attorney Malia Vella and Organizer Kathleen Romero will be on hand to conduct trainings. There will also be a number of community allies and service providers present to provide free assistance. View the flyer here.
