Local 856 Delegates Attend 30th International Brotherhood of Teamsters Convention

Teamsters 856 delegates representing every sector of our Local attended the 30th International Brotherhood of Teamsters Convention in June. Although the convention was held virtually, delegates from Teamster Locals across California and Nevada held a regional assembly in Las Vegas so that they could participate together.

At the convention, in addition to nominating candidates for our International Union’s General Executive Board for the union-wide election this October, delegates also passed important amendments to the I.B.T. Constitution, including starting strike benefits from day one, instead of the previous waiting period of eight days; eliminating the “2/3rds Rule” which previously allowed for the imposition of contracts when less than 2/3rds of members voted to reject; and ensuring that all negotiation committees include rank-and-file members (already a longstanding practice at Local 856).

Teamsters 856 extends its tremendous gratitude to our rank-and-file members who dedicated their time to serve our Local and our International Union as delegates and alternate delegates at the convention.
