Teamsters 856 members stand up for misclassified workers

Local 856 members from United Airlines and Delta Dental joined over 100 fellow Joint Council 7 Teamsters, Teamsters from around the state, and members of the building trades unions at the Capitol to protect workers’ rights and call on Governor Brown and the Legislature to stand with working people and defend Dynamex.

In April, the California Supreme Court ruled unanimously in a case (Dynamex v. Superior Court of LA) that protects workers, including truck drivers, Lyft and Uber drivers from misclassification as independent contractors rather than full employees. Misclassification strips workers of their rights, leads to poor wages and prevents working people from exercising their right to join a union. We called on our elected leaders to defend the court’s decision and protect working people from misclassification.
