Last week, Teamsters 856 members, Mariko Davis, Elena Hernandez, and Joi Razon, traveled to Chicago to take part in the Next Up Young Worker Summit along with Teamsters 856 Political Director Trish Blinstrub and Public Policy Coordinator Malia Vella.
The four-day event brought together more than 1,000 union workers age 35 and under from across the country in an effort to build young power for economic and social justice.
Attendees were able to choose from a variety of workshops, including ones on collective bargaining, common sense economics, and union organizing.
The summit was capped off with a 500-person strong rally in support of increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour. The rally began at a McDonalds and ended with protesters marching to a Food4Less store on the west side of Chicago.
Davis, Hernandez, and Razon will be providing a comprehensive report in the coming weeks on the summit. We look forward to hearing more about their experiences!
