Since 2012, Teamsters 856 has been proud to send a diverse group of members to represent our Local at the Summer Institute on Union Women. The Summer Institute is an annual weeklong event that gives working women from across the world a chance to take a pause from their daily lives to deepen their union knowledge, strategize on how to enhance the labor movement, connect with like-minded women, and elevate their leadership skills.
In 2019, we are continuing our Local’s commitment to member education and involvement by sending an eighth group of Teamsters 856 members to the Summer Institute at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, July 2–6.
Things to know:
Space for the event is limited and there will be a selection process after the application deadline on Friday, May 3, 2019.
Applicants must be members in good standing to be eligible for consideration. If you are unsure if you are a member in good standing, please call the Membership Department at (650) 635-0111.
Selected applicants will receive their registration, most meals, travel, and lodging paid, however, selected applicants will not be compensated for any lost wages incurred as a result of attending the Summer Institute for Union Women 2019. Your Teamsters 856 representative will work with you and your employer to secure time off, vacation or otherwise, to attend the event.
Selected applicants will be responsible for ensuring they possess a valid passport and/or obtaining a valid passport. Selected applications will not be reimbursed for the cost to obtain a valid passport.
Past attendees have been representative of the exceptional diversity of our Local. Members from all backgrounds and industries are highly encouraged to apply.
