Alameda County Probation Teamsters are calling for the immediate replacement of the chief probation officer.

Teamsters 856 Alameda Probation Officers are taking a drastic step to restore stability to their workplace by calling for the immediate removal of the Chief Probation Officer.

In a letter last week on behalf of the Alameda County membership, Teamsters 856 Principal Officer Peter Finn and Staff Attorney Malia Vella implored the Board of Supervisors and County Administrators to take this urgent action based the chief’s dysfunctional and chaotic management of the department.

Examples of the chief’s reckless decisions include involuntarily transferring employees to positions they have never held, including members nearing retirement who have held the same job for decades. These actions have upended morale and sent a message to staff that no one is safe.

“The Chief’s actions have caused unrest and tension within the Department to soar,” said Vella, who represents Alameda Deputy Probation Officers.

“We are committed to fighting back against these attacks on our members and advocating for change when it is so desperately needed,” Vella continued. “An attack on one Teamster is an attack on everyone.”
