WHAT: The West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) Board of Education will vote on Superintendent Matthew Duffy’s proposal to cut 50 graduate tutor positions. Parents, students, staff and teachers will rally before the meeting to urge the Board to keep cuts out of school classrooms and learning centers by voting to save graduate tutor jobs.

WHO: WCCUSD graduate tutors, teachers, staff, parents, students, as well as other members of the community

WHEN: Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 5:30 PM

WHERE: WCCUSD Board of Education meeting
DeJean Middle School Multipurpose Room – 3400 Macdonald Ave., Richmond

WHY: Graduate tutors are essential educators and eliminating them from classrooms and learning centers will disproportionately impact English Learner students and students from immigrant families, as well as students who need additional learning opportunities in order to keep up academically.

Rather than cutting educators to balance WCCUSD’s budget, the Board should make cuts from the over $30 million in contracts with outside vendors and consultants.

HOW: Direct questions ahead of the meeting to Veronica Diaz at (831) 840-3966 or vdiaz@ibt856.org. For more information, go to www.StopGradTutorCuts.com.

PHOTO AND VIDEO OPPORTUNITY: Graduate tutors will be available for interviews at the rally. Rally attendees will hold full-color banners and signs right outside the meeting location.
