856 Principal Officer Peter Finn, Park Central Hotel Steward Kathleen Romero, Delta Dental Members Arieglean Washington & Steward/Trustee Lisa Chin, President Mike Lagomarsino, and Fairmont SF Steward Geoffrey Brown attend the Prop F & Aaron Peskin Kick Off Rally on September 3, 2015.

Teamsters 856 members flexed their collective muscles to fight abuses by short-term rental sites, such as AirBnB, in San Francisco at the “Yes on Prop F and Aaron Peskin for Supervisor Kick Off Rally” earlier this month in San Francisco.

Members from the hotel, benefit administration, and non-profit industries joined fellow Union members and neighbors to pack the H.E.R.E. Local 2 headquarters for the rally, was followed by a phone banking and precinct walking blitz for each of the campaigns.

Teamsters 856 has wholeheartedly endorsed Peskin, who is running for District 3 Supervisor and made affordable housing and cracking down on so-called “sharing economy” firms that undermine workers’ rights key issues in his campaign.

Prop F also aims to aide working families by combatting skyrocketing housing costs in San Francisco and leveling the playing field in the hotel industry. If passed, the initiative would protect traditional long-term rental units and housing in San Francisco from being turned into year-round illegal hotels, which drive up housing costs and create unfair competition with law-abiding properties, where more than 1,000 Local 856 members make their living.
